Resilient Families need Resilient Workers National Symposium 2009



The focus of the Symposium this year is on family support and family services workers and the aim of the Symposium is to present research and good practice examples that will assist practitioners in the field. The emphasis is on skills development, information sharing and proven practice approaches and the Symposium provides a unique professional development opportunity for staff providing family support services. CAFWAA and the Centre are planning a diverse range of presentations relating to the following themes. Learning from Indigenous Families and Workers Creating a Resilient Workforce Wellbeing and Placement Prevention Early Intervention, Early Childhood Vulnerable families = Complex Work Family violence, drugs and alcohol, mental health, disability, effective therapeutic modalities

Thursday 25 June 2009 50 Market Street Melbourne 10am 4pm Please note that these site visits are available to interstate visitors only. You can select to attend one of these visits on the Symposium registration form. Visitors are required to assemble at the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare office, at 10am and will be transported to their nominated site (indicated upon registration). The site will provide an informal presentation and overview of the program. Visitors will have the opportunity to have a discussion with the staff that provides the program or service. A light lunch will also be provided and visitors will be transported back to the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare to arrive at approximately 4pm. There are six sites available and each visit is limited to a maximum of 8 guests. Site One: Reach Out to Kids “Innovative approaches to working with Young People in the context of their families” Site Two: Anglicare Victoria “Integrated support for vulnerable families – Outer East Child FIRST and Integrated Family Services” Site Three: Wesley Youth Services “Supporting young people leaving care” – Wesley Leaving Care program Site Four: Connections “Starting Out – innovative family support approach in working with teenage mothers” Site Five: MacKillop Family Services “St Anthony’s Family Centre – combining family support, educational and disability service support to those at risk of or involved with child protection” Site Six: Berry Street Victoria “Promoting resilience for children and young people at risk through individualised educational responses”
